color

Remember a few years ago any house you walk in was either all white or gray? This trend has changed and now paint color trends for 2020 are no longer timid drop backs for more significant furnishings.

In fact, the paint color takes the center stage. We see more drama in cozy shades of brown that remind us of the simple pleasures of hot chocolate with a cinnamon roll or a sweet taste of the not-so-healthy decadent dessert we all crave. Perhaps, because these are forbidden pleasures nowadays, people voted and major paint companies, such as Farrow and Ball came up with the collection of dramatic and sumptuous new paint colors.

Have a look:

Above is the color collage I created for your reference of cozy shades of brown that are very much on-trend in 2020. They are not related to any actual paint manufacturers. But, depending on the paint store you use and the color you like, you can give them the number to march with their paints.

Here are my favorite brands as well as paint colors I love for 2020:

Farrow and Ball Deep Reddish Brown

Source: Farrow & Ball Deep Reddish Brown

Deep Reddish Brown will add focus to a room with simple furniture in blond wood. It works great with gold and beige as well.

The above photo shows my interior design project – a classical conservatory with large windows. We painted the walls dark brown with a purple undertone to highlight the room’s architecture. In truth, my client was reluctant to agree to such a deep color but then she loved the final result with all the other selections that we made for her traditional taste.

Lighter paint colors that are on-trend in 2020

Ultimately, deep paint colors are not for everyone, no matter if it’s a trend or not. If you like lighter colors but would like an updated look, consider a lighter shade.

Behr Raisin in the Sun

For example, Raisin in the Sun by Behr is a very pretty modern paint color that works with gray, white or softer pink. You can use it in any room, even kids’ rooms. It is very similar to my favorite, Sulking Room Pink by Farrow and Ball. Since this color is present in so many variations within the fashion industry as well as interior design I predict that it will stay in style for a long time.

Another beautiful and almost neutral paint color that made an appearance in major interior design trade shows all over the world is Farrow and Ball Peignoir.

It is perfect for both classical and modern rooms. Whether you use this paint color to decorate a bathroom or a dining room it will always look different in a different light. So, bottom line, you won’t get tired of it soon.

What is your take on paint color trends for 2020? Which one is your favorite?

Did you know that colors also influence our emotional, mental, and psychological health? Psychologists say that the choice of color not only reflects our taste and personality, but it also gives an idea about our psychological condition. It has the power of changing one’s mood and usually has a ripple effect. The impact color can have, is not only about the color itself; it goes beyond that, and color’s shade, tint, brightness, and tone also play a part in extracting people’s reactions. Natural conditioning, psychological effect, and cultural backgrounds also influence the ways people react to different colors. For instance, a light shade of blue will evoke other emotions than a darker shade of the same color.

Mental health issues are rising rapidly, and today, even children are going through several psychological problems and find it extremely challenging to cope with these issues. The patients of depression and anxiety are increasing at an alarming speed, and doctors often recommend color therapy to help patients deal with mild psychological problems. Dealing with psychological issues with color therapy is not a new method, but history shows that people used it centuries ago.

Giving your home a makeover requires you to sort your things out, and while upgrading your house, when you take out all your belongings from cabinets and wardrobe, chances of losing things go higher. If you want to avert even the slightest chance of losing your precious stuff, it is better to avail of storage service and keep your treasured items secure.

If you are in the mood of upgrading your house and wants its wall to have positive effects on residents’ wellbeing, some colors that will help are as follows:

1. BLUE

Apart from influencing people psychologically, blue can impact physical health, as it helps in lowering blood pressure and heart rate. Generally, people use blue in the interior as it gives an illusion of enlarged space, and since it has different shades, you can use various tones, which will help lift dwellers’ spirits. Blue relaxes people as it has a serene effect, and it takes the unnecessary thoughts out of your mind and clears it.

2. YELLOW

People generally associate yellow with energy, as it is the sun’s color, which helps revive the lives of plants and is necessary for other living creatures. Yellow cabinets look aesthetically pleasing, and while you remodel your kitchen, you can go for warmer shades of yellow as its interior. Many people prefer dining in the kitchen, and yellow can increase metabolism rate, helping you digest food. Mustard, baby yellow, or lemon, all yellow shades appear vibrant and help make people energetic.

3. GREEN

Green is the color of plants, and nature has a fantastic quality of providing people with a calming and serene sense. It arouses thought of growth, balance, and different hues of green aid in restoring and reviving one’s inner self. People often find bringing real plants indoors challenging as it demands regular watering, and they think their lives are hectic, and they cannot look after other living beings. Having fake plants and an interior of green is another way of bringing a sense of nature at home.

4. ORANGE

When we talk about bright colors, orange is the first one that comes to mind. It instills enthusiasm and energy in residents and impacts physical health as it increases appetite. Orange interiors can make you fit as it does not let your power down, and will motivate you to hit the treadmill in your house. Orange draws attention, and you can paint the wall in shades of orange where you plan to hang the statement art piece. Orange entrances help evoke a sense of excitement as soon as you enter the home and lift your mood.

5. RED

Red is an exciting color and can have dramatic effects on people. Moreover, red gives room to play, and you can incorporate it in distinctive ways. Psychologists associate it with passion, energy, and zeal. Red is widely associated with love, as it can arouse a feeling of romance. You can use different shades of red in your living room, where you attend guests and spend most of your time, as it will hike your spirits. Crimson red, burgundy, tomato red all hues have a different effect, but all have outstanding properties and make you feel better about yourself.

CONCLUSION

In branding and marketing, color psychology is vital because correct shades evoke the desired emotions in people and extract the reactions they want from their clients. Colors are a powerful communication tool and help you send your message across without being blunt and loud. When you remodel your home, you must keep color psychology into consideration and use vibrant colors so that they will uplift your spirits when you feel down.

You might think that choosing colors for your home is easy – you just pick the ones you like, and that’s it. In most cases, you will get a satisfying result in a visual sense, but psychologically, the color you picked might not be the best choice for the purpose of the room. As you probably already know, certain colors make us feel a certain way, and color psychology is something you should keep in mind when designing your home. It can help you create not just visually pleasing spaces but also spaces that allow you to rest, work, or entertain your guests much more efficiently. With that in mind, here are some of the most popular colors and how you should use them around your apartment.

Blue

blue wall, plant

Blue is one of the most popular colors in general, and it’s not hard to see why. It is a very soothing color that can lower your blood pressure and help you relax, which is why it’s a good choice for the bedroom. You can also use it in your study, as it is known to boost creativity. Moreover, if you want to decrease your appetite and lose weight, use it in your kitchen.

Blue can make people moody though, especially those who tend to suffer from the winter blues, so perhaps you shouldn’t use it too much in your living room. In general, if you live in colder climates, it might be a good idea to opt for warmer colors or at least balance the blue with some warmer-colored accessories.

Green

null

The psychological effects of green are similar to those of blue. It can help you relax and clear your mind, since it’s usually associated with nature, vegetation, and spring. It’s a bit more cheerful than blue though, so it’s less likely to make people depressed and moody.

When combined with brown and yellow, it becomes perfect for your kitchen, as it can remind you of spring and sunshine. In the bedroom, it works best when combined with blue. This makes the room softer on the eyes and helps you rest. When combined with blue, it’s also a great choice for the bathroom, since it can help you create a spa-like atmosphere.

Red

red room, modern, new
Red is used to convey passion, love, and excitement, but it can also indicate danger and threat if the shade is too bright. It is known to increase appetite too, which is why it’s often used in restaurants, and it’s a good choice for your kitchen.

You can also use it in your living room if you want the room to feel more energizing and lively. Just don’t overdo it; as mentioned, too much red cause make people feel threatened, aggressive, and mad. Using it as wall décor, and adding pops of red with flowers and accessories can be more than enough to achieve the positive effect. In the bedroom, you can use it to enhance passion and romance. However, red can make it more difficult to fall asleep, so again, don’t overdo it.

White

null

Many people would say that white is boring or bland, because it’s usually used in hospitals, offices, and other facilities that don’t carry much personality. However, when used correctly, it has many benefits. For example, it can make your living room feel more spacious, which is great if you live in a smaller apartment. Also, if you think of it as a blank canvas, it actually gives you the freedom to add color with everything else, from bigger statement pieces to smaller accessories. This also means that you can change the effect you want to achieve just by changing the accessories instead of repainting the entire room, and it’s a method that can work in any room.

Brown

brown wall, cozy, armchair
Brown is a great choice for when you want to create a cozy and comfortable environment. This is because it reminds people of earth, nature, chocolate, coffee, trees, and other comforting things. It metaphorically keeps you “down to earth”, so use it when you want to create a safe space.

Moreover, when used correctly, it can also make the room appear more luxurious and elegant. This depends on the materials used though; mahogany, for instance, is often used in libraries and spaces designated for quiet conversations.

Yellow

girl smiling, yellow wall, happines, music

Light yellow is a cheerful color that invokes sunshine, happiness, and optimism. Darker yellow, on the other hand, can irritate people, so it’s not a good choice for a base color. Yellow is very popular in kitchens that receive a lot of sunshine since it can warm up the place during winter and freshen up the atmosphere during spring and summer. Moreover, it’s a good choice for halls and entryways, because it can visually expand the space.

Final note

colourful building, blue sky, bright

When choosing the colors for your home, keep in mind that while people do respond similarly in general, there are always exceptions. For example, most people would say that black is the color of death and mourning. However, there are also people who would emphasize its timeless elegance and would enjoy being surrounded by it. Similarly, a color could evoke memories, both positive and negative, and this could influence one’s feelings towards that color regardless of the color psychology. With that in mind, color psychology is something you can rely on, but, when possible, one’s personal feelings should also be taken into account.

Colors can influence people’s emotions, both positively and negatively. So, when designing your home, consider the effects that different colors can have, and your apartment will be not just visually appealing but also much more functional.

Although decorating with nice, soft and natural colors is always the safest and probably the chicest way to go, sometimes you just want to spice things up a little bit, right? But, some people are usually afraid of going bold. Don’t be. Here is how you can easily incorporate bright, bold and strong colors into your neutral space without making everything tacky. The safest and probably the best option is to start slowly by adding various accessories. Here are some you could consider.

Rug

Rugs are the best and coolest accessories for every room. Besides screaming style, they also provide you with a warm fuzzy place for your feet, which makes buying a rug a total win-win scenario. Oh, and let’s not forget about their special role: hiding floor flaws.
If you want to spice things up a little bit in your neutral light space with light floors, opt for an area rug in a bold color such as red, orange, royal blue or purple. If your floor is dark, get a lighter shade such as champagne white or Pantone Greenery shade.

A group of accessories

When you add a group of like-colored elements, it gives the room a huge impact. For example, you can add some bar chairs in the same color, a set of cobalt vases or something like that.

Painting

Paintings are a perfect choice for those who like their furniture and accessories minimalistic, but still want to add some color. Add artwork and photographs to your space. This especially goes for that all-white places, because the paintings will instantly give it that gallery-like impression and a perfect impact.

Pillows

They are giving you the best of both worlds, for sure. First of all, if you choose your pillow set correctly, the entire room will seem way more elegant, and second, they are providing you with comfort. Make sure that they’re soft enough as well as big enough. The perfect choice would be those fluffy down-filled 22-inch ones because, the larger they are, the better they look.

How to?

80/20 rule

Basically, the 80 is for neutral, while 20 is for bold colors. It means that you actually don’t have to add that much in order to create an impact. If you don’t think it is enough, just remember the red lipstick. You know how small our lips are when it comes to our body proportions, right? Yet, our entire look changes once we change the color of our lipstick.

Warm vs. Cool

Before doing anything, you have to determine: do you like cool colors (blue, purple, green, grey etc.) better or the warm ones (reds, yellows, oranges etc.)? Once you do this, make sure you’re using them separately. Keep things simple all the time. Mixing cool colors with warm ones can go wrong in no time, and it is extremely complicated. You don’t need that much stress in your life.

Darks and lights

While light colors open up the space, dark ones are making it appear much smaller. The key is in making a balance which will “deceive” our eyes. Vary the use of strong and dark colors from room to room to make a nice contrast between them. Also, make sure that your space itself has a great lighting. Not only light opens up the rooms, but it also makes every color seem a lot stronger and nicer.

Painting walls – yes or no?

First of all, you should know that painting walls is an exhausting and expensive process. Not to mention that painting every single wall is going to end up looking awful and make the space look smaller, and believe it or not – dirty. Instead, paint just one accent wall with a bold color of your choice. It is going to be far more effective.
That would be it. We hope our advice helped, and that you will have fun while decorating.

Over time, the meaning of the word “luxury” has changed a lot, especially regarding home décor. Today, it seems that the entire concept of a luxurious home has been altered a lot. Modern homes are simplified on purpose, to explain that the home can be valuable and luxurious even though it isn’t rich with excessive decorations. Modern architecture has rapidly developed, resulting in numerous amazing décor styles that leave us speechless.

It is the variety of luxurious home décor styles that make our decisions harder than ever. Every style is special and unique, adding a completely different impression and vibe to our home. Therefore, before you embark on such a complex and, most importantly, expensive project, you need to rethink your wishes and ideas. Here are a couple of luxury décor ideas that might be perfect for you. Check them out!

Ornate interior styles

As it has been already mentioned, in the past, the mark of one’s social status was their highly ornate home. One such example is definitely the famous Rococo style that originates from the 18th century. Being inspired with asymmetrical shapes of objects from nature, décor artists tried to represent such forms in their works. Rococo style is famous for the natural, pastel colors that are opposed to rich, gold-painted plasterwork and heavy materials. Such a combination of excessive ornaments and exotic materials resulted in an amazing effect this décor style leaves on every home. Excessive ornaments, expensive paintings, and statement mirrors are just some aspects of Rococo style.

Apart from Rococo, numerous other décor styles are easily recognizable by their highly embellished interior. Similar to Rococo, they are rich with pastel and bright hues in upholstery and highly embellished furniture made out of heavy, exotic wood.

Therefore, if you are a fan of such excessively decorated and luxurious styles, one of these décor ideas might be perfect for you.

Classic interior style

The classic interior style focuses on the balance of colors and the symmetry of objects and shapes. You should think about hiring an interior designer to make sure everything will look amazing. The colors used in a classic interior style are usually natural and bright, ranging from a variety of oranges, blues, and browns. Use elegant and sophisticated materials such as cotton, canvas, or velvet to make curtains. When it comes to flooring solutions, you should also choose natural ones, such as wood or stone.

In the classic style, details play a vital role. There should be one central element, a focal point, around which the entire room will be organized. For example, a luxurious fireplace could be ideal for such purposes. Also, don’t forget to add some gorgeous statement mirrors that will make any room visually wider and brighter, as well as numerous figurines, elegant chandeliers, and paintings.

Modern interior style

Unlike the above-mentioned highly ornate décor solutions, modern style is usually related to clear, often minimalist forms. Sometimes, it’s a great thing to include different personal things into the interior and connect it to your personal development. For example, in an urban décor, there are no overly elegant and luxurious furniture and details that serve as a time machine that leads you directly to the 18th century. On the contrary, the modern approach usually includes fabrics that are industrially produced. In such an approach, the use of galvanized steel is an amazing way for one to achieve a luxurious effect.

However, if these changes are too radical to you can try out a minimalist approach, which is focused on the simplicity of forms? Large rooms with miniature objects, cold lighting, and white color dominating space are just some basic characteristics of this style. The main trait of minimalist décor is in the balance. It is not about the complete loss of ornaments, but about the proper use of them.

Luxurious home exterior

As for home decoration, it is not just the luxurious interior that matters. According to new home builders, it is the exterior of your home that could also raise the value of your real estate. Numerous exterior features will make the exterior of your house simply magnificent.

Of course, one of the most recognizable features of every luxury home is a swimming pool. There are various types of swimming pools and you need to choose them carefully. The best way for you to build a pool is to consult a contractor who will do all tests and guarantee you that your pool is safe for use.

You could also install a fountain that will make your yard a peaceful place, secluded from noise. However, the only way to emphasize the beauty and the luxury of your home’s exterior is to maintain it regularly and properly.

As you have probably noticed, there are numerous ways for you to decorate your luxury home. Most importantly, there are no good or bad ways for you to do that. Believe us, this is one of those projects that are worth both your time and money. Consider it as a long-run investment in both your comfort and happiness!

A home is a place where you can feel at ease. The way you can be comfortable and feel secure in your home, you cannot do that anywhere else in the world. However, we cannot overlook the fact that a house is, after all, an object which needs continuous retouching and repairing. Without it, no house would be able to survive the test of time. Are you just looking for ways to make your home more attractive for your comfort, or want to keep yourself and your house updated with modern trends? Follow these tips given below to transform your house into a modern house.

Keep it Clean and Organize

The easiest and simple way to make your house look attractive is to tidy things up a little. No one wants to have their house dirty. However, often people don’t have enough time to clean it thoroughly. Therefore, they overlook the impact an in-depth cleaning can have on the visual appeal to the house.

Organizing and decluttering are pretty basic things but can go a long way, whether the furniture in your living room, the crockery in your kitchen cupboards, or the shoes in your entryway. All of this, when kept in an organized manner, can help you feel calm and productive. It will also help you save time and feel less stressed out.

Focus on the First Impression

When you come home from a tough day, you want to feel happy at the sight of your house. That first look can make you feel content that you live here. It is known as curb appeal, which even adds value to your property. It can be done by taking small steps like planting trees and colorful plants or getting your house remodeled. One budget-friendly way to update your house is to install rock veneers for your exteriors, such as walls or facades. You can find professionals around your area for this job. For instance, if you live in Dunn, North Carolina, you can go for the companies like RockSolid Veneers, LLC that offers a wide range of stone veneers.

Pay Attention to the Details

Often while cleaning, organizing, or even renovating, we overlook the nooks and crannies of our houses. However, it does not mean that those areas do not have a part to play in making your house fresh and pleasant. Often these nooks and crannies are high-traffic areas and thus get overlooked. Nevertheless, these small details can go a long way in improving the overall look of your house. Therefore, it is advised to clean and organize them fortnightly or at least once a month.

Make it Green

Having indoor plants can give your house a lively look and make it appear eco-friendly. There are so many added benefits of having plants in your house that making your home greener is an easy bargain. You can expect your green friends:

  • To help clean the air, you breathe in
  • Make you more productive by increasing your creativity and overall boosting your moods.

It will, in turn, lower stress resulting in a happier and healthier you. The indoor plants will give a visual appeal to your house and add a therapeutic factor. It will not only help you feel calm but, whenever someone visits your house, they will also feel the same bliss.

Make Good Use of Your Space

Sometimes overcrowding your rooms can even make the big ones look smaller and congested. This jammed and overfilled look of your house can make you overthink the size of your rooms or even the house itself.

Therefore, it is essential to make effective use of space. For example, using space-saving compact furniture can give a minimalist look to your house. Similarly, installing shelves will save floor space and make the room look more spacious. Another way of making smaller rooms look bigger is by adding mirrors.

Lighting

Dark and dull places are never soothing for anyone. It is always better to have proper lighting in all of your rooms. It will make the environment of your house constructive. Anyone who walks into your well-lit house will feel active and energetic instead of feeling as if they had walked straight into a dungeon with dark alleyways.

Paint

Another way to make your house more welcoming and inviting is to choose proper paint for your walls. Choosing the right paint can make all the difference in the world. You can even use paint to make a small room look bigger by choosing light paint color for your walls. Additionally, the color of your walls can induce different emotions.

Conclusion

An attractive house is, in fact, a happy and livable home. There are numerous ways you can make your house look attractive even if you are on a budget. From simple things like cleaning, organizing, and decluttering to painting the walls and upgrading to stone veneers. Everything can make your house look more inviting and attractive if done rightly. You can add plants or mirrors if you do not want to spend a lot. The critical thing to remember is that your house should still feel endurable when you are done with your renovation projects.

Lastly, remember that a good house is a good home. Instead of blindly following every home renovation video or blog, you must do what makes you feel comfortable. The key is to make your house livable.

Being a travelista is not the easiest thing right now due to the pandemic that is still going on. However, if you can’t go to all the amazing places, then the best thing you could do is to infuse your home with decor that reminds you of all the previous trips you’ve taken, or the trips you plan to take once this whole thing is over. Therefore, if you’re someone who lives and breathes all things related to traveling, then here are some amazing tips that will inspire you to decorate your home to reflect the beauty of this world.

Accentuate your walls

The easiest way to add some travel-inspired decors is to get some wall-art and place that on your walls. After all, we usually hang pictures and paintings anyway, so using your own photographs from various trips is a wonderful way to have those memories with you at all times. Other types of wall art perfect for travelistas are of course maps, whether new or vintage, it doesn’t matter. If you have collected a lot of souvenirs or decor pieces that can be hung on walls, feel free to include them as well.

Don’t forget your kitchen

The kitchen is where the family comes together to eat and spend some lovely moments in the company of one another. So if you love spending time in your kitchen, then decorating it in a travel-inspired style is definitely a great idea. And look no further than your own fridge, because fridge magnets are one of the most common types of souvenirs that you can even make by yourself to remember your travels. Other than that, you can use postcards or any cute pictures that you have. Besides, embellishing your kitchen space with some travel memories will definitely radiate warmth and cosmopolitan vibes, plus your children will always be able to learn about different cultures and traditions.

Vintage suitcases as decor

There’s something uniquely charming about vintage suitcases: they’re elegant and rustic, so if you love all things vintage, then using them as shelves, or simply placing them in certain corners of your home will definitely add a special sense of elegance to your home. If you don’t own any, you can always browse your local vintage sellers or visit antique stores that sell unique or rare items.

Your floors matter

Floors tend to be neglected in favor of other spaces, but did you know that you can use them as well to infuse your home with some travel-themed decor? For example, getting rugs made of New Zealand wool will definitely add a special vibe to your space, especially if you love this country and its vibrant culture. Other styles of rugs that you may consider are of course Berber and Dhurrie, especially since they’re quite enriching and colorful, meaning your space will look much better once you decide to incorporate them. It will also add a special note of comfort to your interior, as it`s one of the most important features of a peaceful home

Polaroid photographs count too

Polaroid pictures are a perfect decor piece, as they’re so versatile and can be used in different ways. So if you’re a photography aficionado, then using Polaroids will surely be a nice addition to your home. You can place Polaroids on the walls, or hang them on a LED string. If you don’t own a Polaroid camera, then you can get a quality printer to print your existing photos to look like Polaroids.

Use musical instruments

Music is a universal language understood all over the world. When everything goes silent, music speaks. And luckily, using musical instruments to decorate your space is a perfect idea for any music-oriented travelista. An acoustic guitar is a lovely staple of many road trips and camping experiences, however, if you own some exotic instruments from other cultures, feel free to use them as a lovely decor, however, make sure to be respectful about it.

Add blankets, quilts, and pillows

Coziness plays an important factor in one’s home, especially if you work a highly stressful job. Therefore, adding various blankets, throw pillows, quilts, or embroidery is a sure way to add some wanderlust-inspired atmosphere to your home. You can use Persian, Moroccan. South American or any other motifs, and also, feel free to mix them together to create a unique blend of different colors and patterns. If possible, try to purchase these items from authentic creators, and nowadays, there are many of them who ship worldwide.

Conclusion

Your home deserves to look warm and stylish, and if you love traveling, then using decor pieces from your trips is a perfect way to cherish those memories. Additionally, feel free to purchase any similarly-looking items that you find, such as posters, musical instruments, globes, pillows, and blankets. Infusing your home with travel-inspired decor is a perfect solution for any travelista who is currently going through withdrawal due to the current situation with the pandemic. Finally, keep in mind that traveling is the only thing that you pay for that actually makes you rich, so feel free to decorate your home to reflect this lovely sentiment.

Every year, low temperatures, high winds, and sudden rainfalls create many problems for homeowners. Sometimes, they notice water dripping from the ceiling, while often, cracks start appearing on walls because of plumbing issues. One thing for sure is that the temperature within the home doesn’t match the temperature outside. As a result, the conditions outside start affecting your home from the inside.

The only way to go about this problem is by weatherproofing the entire house. From windows, gaps in the walls, leakages to doors – you have to ensure the weather doesn’t affect your home’s structure. Perhaps, you can get a thermostat to keep tabs on the temperature, seal the gaps, and install a ventilation system. A few amendments would reduce the chances of wear and tear in the house, improving longevity and durability.

However, if you don’t know how this will work, let us show you the ropes. Here we are listing seven tips for weatherproofing your home.

Fix Leakages

At times, rusty and broken pipes create a lot of mess inside the house. As soon as it starts raining, the water comes dripping from the pipes, straight into the kitchen sink and bathrooms. If you have come across something similar, it is time to fix these leakages. First, grab your plumbing supplies and try fixing the leakages on pipes. Change the ball value and install brass fittings to strengthen the pipes’ grip. Also, use cover plates to conceal the significant gaps around the pipe.

If repairing the pipes seems impossible, you can replace the pipes with new ones. Here, you would need help from expert plumbers since they have to tear down interior walls and fix new pipes. It might seem like an extensive process, but it would save your home from harsh weather conditions in the long run.

Get a Programmable Thermostat

With current weather conditions, the mornings and evenings are frigid; however, nights are chilly. Thus, turning on an air conditioner and then switching the heater at night seems impossible. So, why not install a programmable thermostat to avoid this hassle? It would adjust the temperature according to the weather without consuming a lot of energy. In addition, you can even program it to lower degrees during the day to let some cool air inside the house.

For people who have multiple climate zones in their homes, you can customize the thermostat settings. Perhaps, your parents might prefer a super warm room whereas you like your room a little brisk and cold. Alongside weatherproofing the house, it will ensure house members feel comfortable and cozy.

Overhaul Windows

Old and rusty window frames damage your home’s look and start to let the water in, spoiling the décor. Therefore, monitor your windows carefully to ensure they are in good shape. If you notice any signs of damaged wood or broken frames, try to fix them at your earliest possible. You can extract the damaged wood and replace it with new timber. Afterward, fill the holes with some sand and once it dries out, repaint the frame. Otherwise, you can even varnish it using exterior products.

By making these few amendments, you can weatherproof your home. The thick timber and sand filling would ensure water doesn’t enter through any of the windows. Also, it will protect your home from extreme moisture during the summer season, offering optimal protection.

Repair the Walls

In many homes, the puffed-out and cracked portions of the walls become a leading issue for people. Not only the water starts penetrating every nook and corner, but such conditions also cause structural damage, weakening the home’s foundation. Before weatherproofing, you have to get cracks checked by a professional to repair structural damage. However, if the cracks are small, you can fix them yourself by removing loose material and filling them up.

After that, you have to repaint the wall using high-quality paint. It would withstand all the weather, and the color will stay intact for years. Above all, it will keep your home protected from harsh weather conditions, closing doors for water-related problems.

Clean the Gutters

During the rainy season, clogging is one of the most common problems homeowners encounter. The leaves and debris stuck inside the drain trap the water inside the house that damages the structure. Due to this, water often starts dripping from the ceilings and edges of the home. Fortunately, you can eliminate all this mess by keeping your gutters cleaned. You can call in experts to remove trees, debris and unclog the drains.

In addition, you can get your hands on a plastic wire or a hedgehog gutter leaf-guard filter to clear up the mess. It would also prevent future build-up, weatherproofing your home in the best possible way. Remember, you have to clean gutters after every season to remove any added strain on the system.

Install a Ventilation System

Not having a ventilation system inside the house can significantly affect the air quality. After all, you would be breathing the same contaminated air 24/7, leading to respiratory problems. In addition, your home won’t be able to shed the hot and cold air it doesn’t need. To weatherproof your house, invest in a ventilation system. You can check the vents connected to the HVAC system and ensure they are clean before installing the system.

Moreover, ensure all the vents leading to the attic are free of dust and debris. After all, blockages can trap heat in the vent, causing your ventilation system to run less effectively. Besides this, having a proper plan will come in super handy, especially during harsh weather conditions.

Seal the Gaps & Cracks

Are there any gaps around your doors and windows? Even a 1-2-inches gap between the window or door can invite humid and cold air inside the house. Therefore, you have to seal the holes and cracks around the non-moving parts of the windows and doors. For this, you can either use caulk or foam sealants to bridge and conceal the gaps.

However, if any of the moving parts have cracks, air sealing will work better. You can opt for weatherstripping on the exterior side of the house and seal the unwanted outside drafts. It would prevent moisture and dust, closing doors for heat and mold. Besides this, proper weatherstripping will also improve air quality while keeping small insects and bugs out of your home.

Final Words

As the weather conditions change in a blink of an eye, homeowners have to weatherproof their homes. In addition to eliminating damages in the long term, it will close doors for wear and tear. However, weatherproofing doesn’t require massive repairs or overhauling; instead, a few amendments will be enough. You can clean the gutters, fix leakages, seal the cracks, or install a thermostat to weatherproof your house.

Here, we will review various backyard patio options that you can consider adding to your house.

Adding pavers

Paver patio designs are slightly expensive, but their material needs little maintenance. The installation also tends to take longer compared to other options. According to experts, a professional team can take approximately 3 to 5 days to install paver patios.

The more significant part about this option is that it needs a lot of preparation workup before the whole thing is laid down. First, the dirt and subsoil grass are removed. The excavation might be intense in some areas, but it will be leveled up uniformly using gravel. After the whole construction process is done, it is better to cover your patio with a waterproof seal to ensure it lasts long.

Paver patios are usually made up of clay bricks, concrete, and natural stones. Different sizes, patterns, textures, and colors of concrete options are used. The patio can be used immediately after the construction process is done.

If you walk across it even during the installation, no damages will be reported. On a more positive note, the paver patio is not affected by any intense weather conditions. They can’t contract and crack like other options during the winter months.

Brick patios

Brick patio design typically has hanging lights, a mobile fire pit, and a pergola. This classic option has a broad appeal due to the use of traditional materials in its installation. Many color options of bricks ranging from black, gray, brown, buff, tan, pink to cream can be used. Bricks used to make brick patios are the same building materials you see in some walking paths. They are thin and durable. Placement can be adapted to the following patterns;

  •  45-Degree Herringbone
  •  90-Degree Herringbone
  •  Boxed Basketweave
  •  Combination Stack/Running Bond
  •  Double Basketweave
  •  Running Bond
  •  Single Basketweave
  •  Stacked Bond

Brick patios react badly to cold climates; therefore, they can crack after a while. Some grass and weeds can also grow through it. Fortunately, there are maintenance hacks such as occasional washing with hydrogen peroxide or vinegar. Powerful cleaning of the brick patios keeps it sparkling clean and always looking new.

Flagstone patios

The Flagstone patio design is excellent, with a wooden bench and a fire pit. Thick stone slabs of about 1 to 3 inches are used to install the Flagstone patios. The fittings of Flagstone Patios create irregular shapes giving your deck an appearance of its kind. In addition, the same patio design has a natural charm that everyone can get in love with while navigating through satisfaction.

Its drawback is only based on the uneven terrain, but that can be managed by getting used to it. Finally, flagstone patio design can suit any environment; therefore, you don’t have to worry about the general outlook of the Flagstone Patio design on your home landscape.
