With the rise of the Internet, working from home has become a thing quite common. The benefits of working from a home office are huge: you are basically your own boss, you are the one who decides how you arrange your office and you create your own desired working atmosphere. The downsides to this type of work are pretty much the same, only planning and arranging-related. In order to come up with a proper home office you should take this article into consideration.

Choose a Room for Your Home Office

If having a spare room, fit to suit your office needs is basically where your idea of working at home came from, well, you can move on to the next paragraph. This, however, is seldom the case – usually, people struggle with finding some space to get their work done.

Although working from the desk you generally use your computer for leisure might seem like a good idea, try to avoid this – staying at the same room for both your work and free time can have a negative psychological impact on you, which is why you’ll want to keep the two separate. If you’re looking for a space in your home to creating your working zone, you should convert a bedroom into an office and make this your little corner.

Depending on your profession, home office requirements can vary; despite this, in most cases, an unused attic or laundry room can do the trick – with a bit of rearranging and planning, you can have your home office in no-time. Keep in mind, though, that keeping it uncluttered goes without saying.

Pro tip: you don’t want to store all your work-related paraphernalia on your work desk – instead, think corner shelves, hanging shelves, or storing the items below your table, without compromising your leg room.

Home Office Tips

In order to properly organize your office at home, take these tips under consideration:

Lighting – Nothing is detrimental for your productivity more than providing proper lighting – go with weak lights and your work will turn depressive and your eyesight compromised; go with lighting to strong and your home office will turn bleak and tedious. The most natural way to provide proper light for your work (aside from large enough windows for your home office) is getting quality LED lights.

Air – There is more to air than mere temperature. Although getting a quality air conditioning system is a key factor in remaining comfortable inside your home office, make sure you’ve gotten a proper air purifier. The smells within a small room shouldn’t be too strong and should be adjustable in accordance with the season.

Chair – A great chair will go a long way in creating a productive office space. Beside the fact that an uncomfortable chair might cause you back pain further down the line, it will definitely dwindle your productivity. A quality, comfy chair is definitely an investment to go for.

Wall color – If the “office baige” is your thing, by all means, go for it. This, however, probably isn’t the case, so opt for productive colors, such as orange, red, blue, lime green, etc,

Even though you get the benefit of taking matters in your own hands in your home office, sometimes you’re better off following advice. The tips we’ve outlined will benefit your productivity and make your work time at home more enjoyable and efficient.

The personality of every home is heavily influenced by its relationship with the exterior. Use light for setting the scene

Right lighting options are always going to help you create a perfect setting for your terrace. Recessed floor lights are one of the most popular options today as they can make almost any space appear more inviting. But of course, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t also introduce a sconce or two to your terrace walls. No matter which lighting option you go for, make sure you use LED lights since these both last longer and use less energy than the standard incandescent ones.

Add a protective roof

By adding a protective roof to your terrace, you’ll get a chance to embrace it all year long. As long as there is a comfy chair, you’ll be able to dine or read on your terrace, regardless of the weather conditions. Roofs made of glass or transparent plastic are usually the best choice, since they don’t block sunlight completely. Furthermore, a protective roof will also shield your terrace and all the furniture on it from excessive rainfalls and snowfalls.

Use no more than three colors

Using too many colors on your terrace is hardly going to do you any good. In most of the cases, this will make your terrace look just too busy and cluttered. Therefore, you won’t need more than three colors in order to make your terrace as stylish as possible. Choose one focal color and two more that are going to accompany it. Ideally, this will be one color, accompanied by two neutral colors such as white, gray, and beige. When it comes to your focal color, orange, yellow, or blue are guaranteed to do the trick.

Choose the right doors

With so many different door types available today, choosing the one that will complement your home’s architectural style can be quite difficult. Not only this, but you also have to find doors that will fit into the space nicely and won’t take up too much space. The perfect option for your terrace might be the stylish timber sliding doors that will allow you to let in as much air and natural light as you want.

Create privacy

If you want your terrace to be a place where you can completely relax, you’ll also want to do whatever you can to create some privacy. Greenery is always a great solution, as there are plenty of potted plants that can provide you with some additional privacy. Installing reed or bamboo fencing can also be a great idea, but bear in mind that these will block your view almost entirely. And if you want to go for a different look, you can also a put up sheer curtains and create little den of your own.

Follow all of these tips and your terrace is guaranteed to look great. Once all the work is finished, you can finally take some time to relax on your new terrace and enjoy fresh air.

Now that the summer is officially over, it is time to prepare your home for the holiday season. Personally, it is my favorite time of the year since it is filled with joy and love. During autumn, give your home the new look which will reflect the tones of the season. A golden color, a few decorating ornaments and a lot of carved pumpkins are what defines the holiday season. Here are several tips to help you decorate your home for the fall season.

Start with the display items

Fall is the golden season, which is why you should consider displaying items in similar tones. By simply adding a few items in that tone, the mood of the entire household can change. Go for something that is not too obvious yet does the job. We are talking about oil paintings, lots of brown and red colors, as well as gold and dark green. Decorate your doors or porch, and work your way towards the living room. You will realize how it slowly changes the entire setting of your home, slowing things down and preparing you for the cold winter. Sometimes, display ornaments are all you need.

Work the yard

If you have a long yard, there will be a lot of golden leaves flying around. As you should clean your home, ensure that your yard is also neat and taken care of. Be creative – use the leaves and create decorations you can attach to your porch or the front doors. You can also decorate trees and windows, and add a bit of that seasonal magic to your home. Clean up the entire yard and collect as many golden leaves as you can, but use only the ones you need for decorations. Buy and place a few lanterns here and there for that romantic touch. Enjoy long conversations with your loved ones as the sun sets on the horizon.

Decorate your fireplace

This is definitely something you have to do. Use dried leaves and pine cones to decorate your interior. Additional décor, such as pumpkins and gourds are a big plus. Place the décor on the fireplace, make it radiate with golden colors. Lighten up the entire home and raise your spirits up high. Soon, the fireplace will serve its full purpose, since the winter is just around the corner.

Use decorative lights

The Christmas hype starts sooner than you would expect. Visit your local store and purchase decorating lights, and let your house sparkle. For starters, you could get those in golden and yellow hues, to resemble the true spirit of fall. They are a good replacement for lanterns and candles, and can do the job just the same. As for the interior, set your imagination free and do as your heart desires. Whether you decorate the entire house with lights or just the living room is totally up to you. Get many different types, both large and small ones, and light up the mood with the thought of the upcoming holidays.

Customize the kitchen

You thought we would skip the kitchen? Think again. This is the place where everyone gathers for a nice family meal, enjoying the good wine and moments spent together. Start by placing a few carved pumpkins around. Change the table cover into something more fall-appropriate, and aim for orange, golden or yellowish colors. If you want to take it to the next level, get some new plates with carvings on them showing forests, leaves and Mother Nature. By making these small changes, you really set up the mood for the upcoming festive season. A little preparation for an early celebration never hurt anyone.

Change the curtains

Drapery and curtains have to be changed in order to complete the setup. From fresh and ravishing summer colors to something more fall inspired. Switch from lighter fabrics to heavy ones to hold more air in the room, as well as keep the room warm. If you match the drapes with your interior colors, you will completely set the mood. All that is left is to finally enjoy it.

Bring the warmth in your home and utilize these tips for maximum efficiency. Enjoy the festive season and prepare for love and celebrations.

Your garden can be your retreat spot after a long day of work, but, to make it into the sanctuary you can really enjoy, you will have to add a number of features to make it stand out. Garden pathways might seem like a waste at first, though, they can bring the whole garden together and give it the look you always wanted it to have.

Go with Simple Gravel

Perhaps the simplest of materials to use for a garden pathway will be gravel. If you look into how you can use it to spruce up your garden, it will be a feature that you will greatly appreciate. Do not think that cheap material cannot add class to your well-organized garden as you will be able to create marvellous designs, once you get the hang of it.

Make Use of the Old

You do not have to assume that your next garden pathway will be pricey, especially if you want to get creative. Keep in mind that you can recycle old wooden pallets and give them a new purpose. Furthermore, they will give your garden a unique look that not many will have. On the other hand, it is a great DIY project which will give your garden, even more, value. Nevertheless, understand that natural materials like wood will start to decompose after a while so a change will be in order.

Get Creative with Your Pathway

Most of the people will usually go with stone or stone-like material to have for their pathway, in the long run, it can be an easier solution maintenance-wise. However, using wooden logs  can be tricky at first, though, when you plan it out, you can end up with a magnificent pathway that will tie the whole ambient together nicely. Be sure to get good tools when working on this design as you will have to do a lot of digging.

Stick to the Good Ol’ Look

Depending on your garden’s landscape, the polished stone look can be the best solution for your pathway. Be wary that there are many concrete and stone materials to choose from, and depending on their strength, maintenance can be a nightmare. Using designs which come in many colours and shapes, you can create a truly exceptional pathway which will give your garden the boost it needs to look amazing. Once set, your pathways will be built to last with minimal effort to keep them in good condition.

Make a Brick Pathway

Bricks can be used in more ways than one when it comes to design. Even though it will take a bit of time and expertise to make the perfect design your garden deserves, a brick pathway can look amazing. Be sure to plan ahead, in order to avoid having to take the brick out every time you are not happy with its look.

Garden upkeep might be tricky for most people to deal with, and unless you are ready to sacrifice some of your time, you cannot really expect to have a place where you can relax. Pathways can be used to create unique designs and to take your landscaping to the next step as well. Always make a plan before you start creating your pathways, to avoid unnecessary digging and reorganization.

Designing a nursery can be very challenging, because you want to make the space as fantastic as it can be for your child. In this endeavor, many parents get overwhelmed in the sea of “cute” and “adorable” designs, so much so, they often forget that this is a room where the baby will grow to be a toddler and the toddler to become a school child. That’s why I love to keep things on the simpler side. However, that doesn’t mean that I never add anything special in the nursery that makes it sufficiently different from any other room I’d design. In most cases, that is a touch of elegance that elevates the baby’s room just enough to make it stand out. Here’s how you can do the same.

Keep the colors low-key

This is always my tip for designing the perfect nursery, regardless of the style you choose, because, even though it is important to stimulate the baby’s sight and mind with colors and shapes, this shouldn’t be overwhelming, especially in the room where they sleep. That’s why it is always better to decide on one or two colors. Of course, you can use different tones of the same color to showcase shapes or diversity. For an elegant nursery, you can opt for neutrals like grey, beige and white, as well for pastels like soft pink or dusty rose. A variation on Pantone’s color of the year 2018 – ultra-violet – also makes sense.

Add elaborate furniture pieces

If you think that a nursery has no use of designer furniture pieces, you are wrong. First of all, they will enrich the space with an understated elegance. Also, a comfy upholstered armchair or sofa will serve the mother while putting the baby to sleep or reading a goodnight story. Well-designed bespoke ottomans and a full-height wardrobe add another dash of style and ample storage room.

Go all out with the crib

The crib is the centerpiece of the nursery, and as such, it should be chosen to reflect everything you want to say about the room’s style. In this case, it has to be pure elegance. Depending on the rest of the design, you can decide for eye-catching carved wood, simplistic metallic rails, pure white, dusty pink or a neutral tone. Also, you can enhance the elegance with a crib canopy and a luxurious mobile (simplistic with metallic or pastel details).

Add a point of interest

Did you know that babies love looking in the mirror? And did you know that that is useful for their social and emotional development? Now you already have two reasons to introduce mirrors into the nursery. Here’s the third one: beautiful designer mirrors (especially ones with silver or brass frames) can add splendor to the nursery and serve as a glamorous point of interest.

Say it with lights

Lighting plays a huge role in every room. For the nursery, it is essential to install light fixtures with dimmers, so that you can adapt the lighting to the ongoing activity (e.g. napping and playing). Also, for the noblesse feel, you can install one especially elegant ceiling fixture, such as a crystal chandelier, brass chandelier, aged silver chandelier and any type of glam vintage fixture.

Glamccessorize

Finally, accessories make all the difference in the world when it comes to designing a high-end room. It is no different with the nursery. When considering accessories to use in the nursery, think about creating balance between elegance and child-friendliness. You want your baby to have enough toys, but you also want to neutralize their presence with metallic items (e.g. golden, copper, rose gold, silver or aged silver lamps, candlesticks and vases). Make sure to keep the toys well-organized and displayed on shelves or stored in storage units. You can also display some artwork on the wall or use appropriate wall-stickers (e.g. gold dots on white background, glow in the dark stickers, 3D brick stickers, etc.).

Elegance is defined as “dignified gracefulness or restrained beauty of style”. Isn’t that something you would like for your baby’s nursery? If your answer is ‘yes’, these tips will be helpful for your design efforts.

Starry Night right in your bedroom

Shades of dark blue combined with pops of yellow, those strong brushstrokes, there is no painting quite like Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night. Using this masterpiece as your inspiration you can introduce a bit of romance and mystery into your bedroom  design. Opt for darker shades of blue for the walls and as contrast add lighter furniture in yellow and white color palette. You could accentuate the wall with striped curtains resembling van Gogh’s brush strokes. And as the focal point of this design, representing the cypress tree a black armchair. Your composition is now complete.

A harmony in red

What better inspiration for the dining room design then Matisse’s Harmony in Red. It provides us with so much inspiration with red, of course being the dominant colour. Of course your living room decor shouldn’t drown in it, it should be carefully placed in form of table cloths, curtains and optionally chair furbishing. To invoke the energy of the wallpaper pattern you could opt for some stencil work that would serve as a focal point of the entire decor. Finally, a stunning vase in the middle of the table is all that is missing for this to be true harmony in red.

A bit of Gauguin in your living room

The series of paintings by Paul Gauguin that were inspired by the Polynesian culture and beliefs present an amazing source for inspiration for living room decor. The deep blues and emerald greens contrasted with soft yellows and the ever present red can help create a stunning design basis. A painting like the La Orana Maria present the perfect inspiration. Start with the dark tones for the larger pieces of furniture, then soften it all up with light pillows and carpets. Make sure you have some stunning framed prints depicting palm trees to make the whole composition complete. Your guests will be transported to a beautiful Polynesian island as soon as they step into your living room, and Gauguin’s presence is bound to be recognized.

A cubism inspired kitchen

Why not, after all cubism is all about deconstructed, fractured forms. Bringing a bit of Picasso inspired decor into your kitchen decor is bound to elevate it to a whole new level. Remember when a couple of years back DIY took over the interior design world? Everyone was trying to make their own pallet furniture and other similar items. This year, one of the biggest interior design trends lies in artisan works. Handcrafted products require skills, time and artistry which, when combined, breathe life into pieces enriched by the attention and creativity of the artisan behind those creations. This is the reason why these craftsman designs integrate well into various interior design styles and elevate the entire room once introduced. No matter if you own your place or rent an apartment, here are a few ideal ways to add handmade décor into your home.

A statement furniture piece

Handcrafted furniture comes at a hefty price, so having an entire set of these pieces is a true luxury. Fortunately, you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to equip an entire room with such designer pieces. It is enough to invest in one conspicuous piece to add a touch of glamour to your home and inspire every guest to ask you “Where did you get such a thing?” Wood carving is especially designed with the intention to be in the limelight, but you can also go for woven chairs, stools with tassels, teal carved chairs or metal objects.

An attention-grabbing rug

Handmade rugs are hardly a new thing. In fact, they have a long and exciting history that dates back to 500 BC. Originally they were intended for making floors warmer, but eventually they began to stand for prestige and class. Introduce a breath of these ancient refinements to your home by getting a handcrafted Persian rug that is an instant showstopper with its numerous colors and patterns you can’t look away from.

Designer pots

When you want to enrich your home with a fresh new look without spending too much money or changing too many things, you can simply go for foolproof accessories such as hand painted pots. In combination with lively houseplants, these unique pieces bring a sense of originality into your home and can be added to every room ranging from the bathroom to the lounge. The best thing about them is that you can find such designer pots online at affordable prices, when considering the work the artists invested into making them.

Pillow talking

If you have ever read a magazine article about making your home look comfier and more elegant, you have probably ran into tips saying you should add more throw pillows to sofas, couches and beds. However, if besides coziness and elegancy you also want to add more individuality, you should opt for handmade throw pillows that come in a range of fascinating designs that can fit into every design style. Some are hand painted, some knitted and others sewn with incredible attention to detail – the mass produced throw pillows can’t compete with that.

The cover up

What goes hand to hand with pillows? Of course blankets and furniture covers. Similarly to the previous item, these products come in various designs and the artisans use different methods for making them. The borders of their imagination are nowhere to be seen. Depending on your overall home design, you can decide for having ethnic patterns on your blankets and covers, or go for a more modern look such as a chunky arm knitted blanket throw in a vibrant shade.

Lights up

Chandeliers, pendant lamps and table lamps have always contributed to home décor in two ways: by providing ambiance and by being distinct decorative elements. Handcrafted chandeliers can serve as a unique centerpiece, not only in the living room, but also in the bedroom and the bathroom. There are many different styles handcrafted lighting fixtures come in, ranging from industrial metal pieces to chandeliers with crystal beads, such as the ones that used to light up ballrooms around the world.

It takes only one artisan piece to make your home look like a million bucks, because it is impossible not to notice the care and attention invested into making them.

Many of us buy a home with the hope of hosting friends and family for BBQs, family events and big holidays like Christmas. Unfortunately, this may not be possible for every home, especially if your backyard isn’t very large, or you don’t have a patio. A clever way to get around this is to repurpose the space you already have. A carport makes for the perfect multipurpose space: you can use the entirety of a carport or part of it to create an incredible entertaining area for your friends and family. Whether you no longer need your carport, or have space in your home for a carport but not an entire patio, there are a range of ways of repurposing your carport to turn it into an outdoor entertainment area.

Repurposing your carport is an affordable outdoor entertaining solution, as you will not have to build a deck or put up any new structures. Additionally, guests will absolutely love being able to enjoy the outdoors while still having a roof over their heads. If your carport is situated close to the kitchen or dining areas, with quality flooring, you can easily leave the doors open and create a seamless entertaining experience between the spaces.

So what are you waiting for? Keep on reading to get inspiration for all the ways you could use your carport to entertain!

Barbeque Area

One of the simplest and most popular ways to repurpose your carport is to turn it into a BBQ area. Of course, the BBQ itself is the centre piece of this arrangement. Next, you have to arrange seating and tables. If you’re working with a smaller space, simply add some deck chairs and a small table.

If you’re lucky enough to have a much larger space available to you, invest in an entire dining table with chairs, and maybe even some fun outdoor swing chairs to really personalise the space, as well as a statement BBQ.

Dining Area

If your carport is accessible from the kitchen, you have a great opportunity to turn your carport into an outdoor dining area. By simply providing a dining table and chairs, you will be able to seamlessly integrate your indoor and outdoor spaces.

Guests will be able to mingle indoors or outdoors at their own leisure, and you will be able to easily bring out meals from the kitchen or top up drinks. This provides with the perfect summer entertaining area that is large enough to host all your extended family for Christmas.

Bar

Whether you’re working with a smaller carport or want to add an extra touch to your outdoor dining area, consider transforming your carport into a bar. For this, all you need to do is attach some shelving to display your liquor bottles.

Integrating an outdoor cooler will make it easier to enjoy your drinks outside. Also consider adding bar stools or bench space around the perimeter of your carport, so that guests can mingle and relax over drinks.

Games Room

Carports can also be surprisingly good for turning into a games room or recreational space. Adding a ping pong table, foosball table or basketball hoop instantly gives you a space within your home to play games, dispel some stress and give your guests something fun to do when visiting.

Porch

Some homes may not have the benefit of a porch, or any kind of outdoor area that allows you to simply sit back and enjoy the fresh air. Carports prove to be a highly flexible solution, as you can use part of it or the whole carport to turn into a porch.

Decorate with some warm and homely finishes, add some comfortable rocking chairs, bean bags and a side table, and you instantly have a cosy way to enjoy the outdoors.

Integrated Lounge and Dining Area

If you have a lot of backyard space, a large carport or an existing patio area, you will be able to create an incredible outdoor entertainment space. Add a dining table, BBQ, lounges and smaller tables to create an integrated outdoor lounge and dining area where guests can mingle, grab a drink, talk to each other and sit down for a meal. This is particularly great for large parties, where you can set up different zones so that all guests can enjoy something different at any given time.

For all of the above suggestions, make sure to use plenty of plants to create a retreat-like feel for your outdoor entertaining area. The right lighting will also make a huge difference to the ambience of your outdoor entertaining area. Fairy lights, festoon lights or standing lampposts are all great options, depending on the feel you are going for.

If you have a carport that is not being used to its full potential, try turning it into an outdoor entertaining area! With the addition of a few pieces of furniture, you can transform your space.
