No matter how much time we invest in decorating our home, if we don’t spice things up every now and then, we’ll end up living in an old-fashioned house and using outdated appliances. Even though some things will never go out of style, it’s always a good idea to spice up your current home décor with a few trendy and elegant pieces. Even though many people believe that it takes a fortune to spice up your home décor, that isn’t the case. For people looking for inspiration, we bring you seven innovative décor solutions for your home:
Mirror, mirror
Mirrors are the best – not only do they make a room look more spacious, but they also reflect light at the same time. Another great thing is that you can work with what you have: if you don’t have enough space for an oversized mirror, you can always take several smaller ones in interesting frames and hang them on the wall so that they form a ‘sculpture’. If, on the other hand, you need to lighten up a room, you can simply hang a mirror on the wall opposite a window and angle it so that it reflects sunlight.
Add color
Even though white rooms with white walls look clean, they’re also boring. In order to spice up your home, you need to add more color. This doesn’t mean you have to paint the walls or kitchen cabinets, but adding colorful details is a great way to change the appearance of any room. Fresh flowers in colorful vases and colorful pots will look great on both the shelves and dining room tables, glittery throw pillows on the living room sofa look playful, and brightly colored frames will fit in well on your white walls.
Luxurious materials
Sometimes you don’t even have to buy a new piece in order to spice up your home’s look. Instead, you can try doing this by using luxury materials in every room. Start simply: replace old towels in your bathroom with the ones made of Egyptian or organic cotton and bamboo, use faux fur covers for your living room sofa, replace your old chandeliers and lamps with crystal ones, and buy luxurious and expensive bed sheets. Velvet or silk curtains will make the light in your living room look completely different and you won’t have to spend a fortune to get them either.
Statement pieces
Sometimes it takes only a single thing to change the look of an entire room, and with extravagant and luxurious statement pieces, your home will look great. You can do this with tall statement lamps which you can place in the corner of your living room, a coffee table with hidden storage or space for a potted plant in the middle, or a replica of the original Barcelona set: a Barcelona daybed, ottoman, and a sofa. This will give your home an avant-garde look from the 1920s that many today find elegant.
DIY heaven
An inexpensive way to brighten up a room is to make something with your own hands and put it up on the wall or on the shelf. You can start by buying a simple white canvas and using thumbtacks to ‘draw’ something on it. You can use silver or gold ones and even combine them to ‘paint’ a picture and give it more depth. Another thing you can do is paint the thumbtacks with nail polish after you finish and even glue glitters with a hot glue gun. You could also try hammering a few nails in the shape of a letter, heart, star, or anything else, and tying a string going from nail to nail to get a little work of art.
When you don’t change things in your home often, you end up with a familiar environment, but it’s also a bit boring. This doesn’t mean that you should redecorate and renovate every couple of months, but when you take time to change little things every now and then, you’ll get a home that always looks modern. The best thing is that you don’t even have to spend a lot of money in order to change the way your rooms look, all you have to do is be ready to get creative.
