Interiors

Tis the season to be jolly and decorate your home. But sometimes, we know you don’t just want to do the same as last year. Sometimes, it’s fun to try something different.

If you’re feeling the need to try a new trend, or begin a fresh family Christmas tradition for your home, we’ve got five of the latest decorative styles to hit the UK this 2017. Take a look and see if you see anything that could really give your home that extra Christmassy something you’ve been searching for!

“Christmas is a great time to add some sophistication to your home with the perfect Christmas decorative display,” said Pimlico estate agent, Andrew Reeves. “Or, if you want to be a little more playful, then you could go down that décor route, if you prefer. Pretty much anything goes, as long as it makes you happy and helps your Christmas a special one.”

A Peruvian twist

Add some Peruvian flair to your Christmas décor this year, with lots of animals and bright colours, pom poms and fun. It might be a little different from your typical colour co-ordinated tree and matching ornaments. But, there’s just something really fun about just choosing your favourite colours and animals to change up your usual Christmas theme.

Light it up

Few of us are strangers to Christmas lights. But, how about adding some light in a slightly different way? Instead of the typical string lights with different shaped bulbs, you could opt to light up a favourite scene or corner with some hidden lighting. Illuminate favourite Christmas ornaments with some discreet lighting behind them. Light and shadow boxes are different options, too.

“Lights are always popular at Christmas, so add a new element to your lights display this year,” said Fulham estate agent, Lawsons & Daughters. “Illuminations are a traditional part of Christmas, but by presenting it in a different way, you’re sure to add some lovely touches to your home”.

Have a retro Christmas?

Christmas in the 70s and 80s was a shiny experience, full of tinsel. If there’s no such thing as too much tinsel for you, then you’ll be pleased to hear its making a big come back! Go tinsel crazy and drape that shiny stuff everywhere! Your nod to nostalgia will be fun for you and your family too!

Metallic magic

If you love the metallic trend that’s current interior design favourite, you’ll be pleased to hear tis ready to make an appearance at Christmas too. Metallic colours and Christmas decorations abound in 2017, so why not use it as an excuse to buy even more fabulous new decorative items? From different metallic shades for baubles, to some show stopping lighting options, you can have a very on trend Christmas with this theme.

Rustic and ribbons

For those of you who prefer something a little more rustic, there’s plenty out there for you, too. Dress your real Christmas tree up with lots of natural wooden ornaments in the shapes of hearts and stars. Then, top it all of with some bows made from gingham ribbon! It’s a lovely look that suits every kind of home regardless of the styling elsewhere.

“Whether decorating for Christmas is done with military precision or a dash of anything goes, it’s a time of year to be happy and enjoy your home,” said Proskips. “So, choose items and colours you love to ensure you love the finished Christmas decorative article, this year.”

Although decorating with nice, soft and natural colors is always the safest and probably the chicest way to go, sometimes you just want to spice things up a little bit, right? But, some people are usually afraid of going bold. Don’t be. Here is how you can easily incorporate bright, bold and strong colors into your neutral space without making everything tacky. The safest and probably the best option is to start slowly by adding various accessories. Here are some you could consider.

Rug

Rugs are the best and coolest accessories for every room. Besides screaming style, they also provide you with a warm fuzzy place for your feet, which makes buying a rug a total win-win scenario. Oh, and let’s not forget about their special role: hiding floor flaws.
If you want to spice things up a little bit in your neutral light space with light floors, opt for an area rug in a bold color such as red, orange, royal blue or purple. If your floor is dark, get a lighter shade such as champagne white or Pantone Greenery shade.

A group of accessories

When you add a group of like-colored elements, it gives the room a huge impact. For example, you can add some bar chairs in the same color, a set of cobalt vases or something like that.

Painting

Paintings are a perfect choice for those who like their furniture and accessories minimalistic, but still want to add some color. Add artwork and photographs to your space. This especially goes for that all-white places, because the paintings will instantly give it that gallery-like impression and a perfect impact.

Pillows

They are giving you the best of both worlds, for sure. First of all, if you choose your pillow set correctly, the entire room will seem way more elegant, and second, they are providing you with comfort. Make sure that they’re soft enough as well as big enough. The perfect choice would be those fluffy down-filled 22-inch ones because, the larger they are, the better they look.

How to?

80/20 rule

Basically, the 80 is for neutral, while 20 is for bold colors. It means that you actually don’t have to add that much in order to create an impact. If you don’t think it is enough, just remember the red lipstick. You know how small our lips are when it comes to our body proportions, right? Yet, our entire look changes once we change the color of our lipstick.

Warm vs. Cool

Before doing anything, you have to determine: do you like cool colors (blue, purple, green, grey etc.) better or the warm ones (reds, yellows, oranges etc.)? Once you do this, make sure you’re using them separately. Keep things simple all the time. Mixing cool colors with warm ones can go wrong in no time, and it is extremely complicated. You don’t need that much stress in your life.

Darks and lights

While light colors open up the space, dark ones are making it appear much smaller. The key is in making a balance which will “deceive” our eyes. Vary the use of strong and dark colors from room to room to make a nice contrast between them. Also, make sure that your space itself has a great lighting. Not only light opens up the rooms, but it also makes every color seem a lot stronger and nicer.

Painting walls – yes or no?

First of all, you should know that painting walls is an exhausting and expensive process. Not to mention that painting every single wall is going to end up looking awful and make the space look smaller, and believe it or not – dirty. Instead, paint just one accent wall with a bold color of your choice. It is going to be far more effective.
That would be it. We hope our advice helped, and that you will have fun while decorating.

June 7th 2016 – the launching date of the new Big Brother season in the UK brought a lot of new sensational details. Whether you approve of it or not, the fact is that this attention-grabbing show makes thousands of people sit in front of their screens with their mouth wide open. All that while following the hectic lives of the housemates and – for the first time in BB history – The Other.

Big Brother’s Attention Grabbing Interiors

Conspiracy that the game brings is not the only thing that makes this season breathtaking. Its unique and amazing interior grabbed attention of the public even before the show actually started. This year’s been a real hunt – an action full of thrills for interior designers ready to produce the extravagant pieces of furniture that would suit the Big Brother one-of-a-kind lifestyle. Neon lights, flashes of hot pink and yellow combined with the 70s themed bedrooms – this year’s winner, Zespoke, made an atmosphere that’s without saying funky, retro and glamorous.

Backyard with a Jacuzzi – Extravagant!

Let’s check out some of the features of the main house. There’s the newly overhauled backyard with a Jacuzzi, a hot tub and stylish lounge areas. It’s, by all means, the most enjoyable area at the moment.

The psychedelic living-room contains the furniture that adds dramatic effects to the whole atmosphere. Bright yellow sofas, lots of zig-zags, curved side tables, console tables and hoop coffee tables, bright pink Ottomans and black and pink graphics on the walls – the list of shiny, fun features seems endless. The tables come in different colours, and Zespoke made different custom-made options, such as glass shelves or metal legs.

Colourful Bar

Having the bedroom with 70s décor brings a new vibe into the house. There’s a multicoloured bar in the center of this room and fluorescent light on the ceiling. It all looks simply refreshing, vivacious and rousing.  The colours in the dining-room fit this festive atmosphere, as well.

Blog #5 – The Happy Home Blog

The name says it all. Belinda has been running the joint with grace and joy since 2007. What’s so special about this one? Well, Belinda has successfully merged good taste with family oriented decor. She loves DIY so if you are a fan too, you’ll enjoy reading her adventures with her beautiful four kids. One thing that I love is her take on her own style over the years. Read it here. She is consistent, her ideas are lovely and bring a dash of fresh air.

What has led to where she is now? She wrote for Fairfax Community Newspapers, then moved to Cosmopolitan magazine and she was one of the people behind the launch of Real Living magazine. She took a break from all that after her firstborn Zak came into the world. Three more rascals (this is how she calls them, so cute!) followed.  That’s why her blog gives out that relaxed vibe you’ll feel comfortable with.
