After Baekeland’s invention, organic chemists began researching the development of other types of plastics.

Acrylic was first developed commercially in the 1930’s. It is a polymer that is synthesised from methyl methacrylate, and is also known as Poly Methyl Methacrylate, or PMMA.

Since then, acrylic has come a long way and is now used extensively in residential and commercial purposes. The Development of Acrylic Mirror Sheet
Acrylic mirror sheet is a more modern twist on conventional acrylic sheets. Believed to have first been developed in the 1960’s or 1970’s, acrylic mirror sheet is produced by applying a reflective coating to clear acrylic.
This gives it the visual appearance of conventional mirrored glass, but with the advantages that it is stronger, less fragile, more impact resistant, lighter weight, easy to cut and drill, easy to transport and easy to mould.
